herpes eye
It is possible for a herpes infection to affect the eye(s). A herpes eye infection is known as ocular herpes. Ocular herpes is typically an oral herpes infection that was spread from an area about the mouth to the eyes. Ocular herpes is a rare condition. Ocular herpes usually occurs when a person goes in some form or another from their mouth to their eyes. One method for transferring herpes to the eyes is placing a contact lens in the mouth to moisturize it, and then placing the lens into the eye. To avoid getting herpes in the eye, never place anything from the mouth, your own mouth or someone else's, directly into the eyes. Ocular herpes requires medical intervention. A case of ocular herpes that does not receive medical attention may lead to vision impairment. Ocular herpes typically presents as a constant irritation within the eye. Any irritation of the eye that lasts for a number of days should receive medical intervention, whether ocular herpes is suspected or not. Some people with genital herpes fear they'll spread their genital herpes infection to their eyes. This is not a realisitic scenario. Genital herpes does not cause ocular herpes, oral herpes does.
