herpes simplex 2
Herpes simplex 2 is one of two variations of the herpes simplex virus. The other variation of the herpes simplex virus is herpes simplex 1. Herpes simplex 2 typically causes genital herpes. Herpes simplex 2 infection does not always produce physical symptoms, but when it does the symptoms are often an outbreak of blisters in the genital area. A genital herpes outbreak usually begins with discomfort in the herpes affected area, followed by a blister outbreak that eventually scabs over and heals. An untreated genital herpes outbreak will normally run two weeks or so. A genital herpes outbreak that gets treatment can clear within days. During a genital herpes outbreak, genital herpes or herpes simplex 2 infection is at its most contagious. Herpes simplex 2 infection is considered a nuisance, not a serious threat to health.
