ocular herpes
Ocular herpes is a herpes infection within the eye(s). Ocular herpes is not an especially common condition, but it can and does occur. Ocular herpes typically results from someone passing an oral herpes infection to their eye(s). Symptomatic oral herpes infections are often referred to as cold sores. A regular means for incurring an ocular herpes infection is a person going from their mouth directly to their eye(s): one example of this would be a person wetting a contact lens in their mouth and then placing the contact lens directly into their eye. To avoid potential ocular herpes infection, never go directly from one's own, or someone else's, mouth into one's eye(s). Ocular herpes does require medical intervention as, left untreated, ocular herpes can potentially cause permanent vision impairment.
